Duties

Help
  • Note: This is a training position for a certified Lifeguard. Works under close supervision wherein the work is closely reviewed/monitored and detailed guidance provided.
  • Must participate in all required training (emergency rescue drills, emergency action plan simulations). Mandatory certifications must be complete within 30 calendar days of employment.
  • Upon completion of mandatory certifications, the incumbent will be noncompetitively reassigned to Recreation Aid (Lifeguard), PD #3206, responsible for lifeguarding guest in attendance at an assigned aquatic facility.
  • Lifeguarding/First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard, YMCA..); American Red Cross "CPR for the Professional; CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED); First Aid.
  • For facilities that use Oxygen Administration "O2 bottles" the O2 Administration certification (American Red Cross "Oxygen Administration or installation offered training (i.e. Fire Dept.) must be obtained within two weeks of reporting for duty.

  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • May be assigned to irregular duties or when needed for special recreational events and related requirements. Work hours may involve weekend, weekdays, holidays and night duty.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical is required for this position. Must have current health assessment which documents good physical health, and free from communicable disease IAW current Army Policy.
  • Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high temperature and humidity. In case of exposure to infectious disease, incumbent is required to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24-hour period.
  • Lifeguards must have good vision (corrected vision if necessary) while on duty to effectively recognize all emergencies, incidents and rule breaking.
  • Incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.
  • Fifteen(15) year old lifeguards must comply with the restriction of the DOL Child Labors Law (Jan 17, 2006).
  • All required certifications must be kept current. Failure to complete the required certification will result in removal from employment. All required certifications must be obtained within specified time and kept current.
  • Be able to obtain within 30 days and maintain the following certifications: Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED from a nationally recognized agency.
  • For facilities that use Oxygen Administration "O2 bottles" the O2 Administration certification (American Red Cross "Oxygen Administration” or installation offered training (i.e. Fire Dept.) must be obtained within two weeks of reporting for duty.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be able to swim and participate in the lifeguard certifications.


What's needed to be considered 'Guard Ready':
  1. You need to be 15 by the last scheduled day of your class.
  2. Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. You may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Swimming on the back or side is not allowed.This is the only portion of the class where swim goggles are allowed.
  3. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.Starting in the water, swim 20 yards with your face out of the water. Goggles not allowed. Surface dive, feet-first or head- -pound dive brick. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to the starting point with both hands holding the brick, keeping your face at or near the surface so you are able to get a breath. You should not swim the distance under water. Candidates must exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
  4. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. You should place your hands under your armpits or behind your head.

PCS Costs:
  • Payment Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.
Pay-Band (NF or CY) Allowances and Differentials:
  • This is a pay-banded position.
  • Sunday premium pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. If authorized, only regular (full-time, part-time, limited tenure and seasonal) employees may be paid Sunday premium pay. When authorized, Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday). Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday).
  • Night differential may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. When authorized, night differential will be paid at the rate of 10% basic rate for hours of non-overtime work performed between 1800-0600.
Incentives and bonuses:
  • Incentives will not be paid.
Non-Foreign Overseas Allowances and Differentials:
  • Overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid.
